Black Destruction was a great dragon who lived hidden in the hills
of Germany. For centuries he sequestered himself in his hidden lair,
emerging only infrequently to plunder. Finally in the 13th century his
lair was found by a young sheapard boy. The frightened boy told the
village elders, who sent message to the king. The king sent many valiant
warriors, and finally Black Destruction was slain by the twins. When the
nervous villagers finally ventured back into the crevasse that contained
the treasure they were startled by the vast collection of gold, silver,
and gems. The parish priest made a careful record of all that was removed
from the dragon's lair.
- 12 bushels of diamonds
- 100 deep green stones, the size of a hen's egg
- a great dish, as wide across as the span of a man's arms, made
entirely of gold
- three sapphires, bigger than two clenched fists
- a quantity of rubies, all of the finest color sufficient to fill a
washbasin
- enough jewel encrusted swords and various weapons to arm 50 men
- more gold coins than could be carried by 200 horses
- a quantity of silver coins, goblets, and chalices so great as to be
impossible to number
- one chalices of curious workmanship, that rendered any liquid in it
a vile poison, by which many men and women were brought down to an untimely
grave.
